Five-star recruit RJ Hampton of Little Elm (TX) had three college fan bases watching ESPN’s Get Up at 8:30am anxiously awaiting his decision.
After narrowing down to Texas Tech, Kansas and Memphis, many speculated that the Jayhawks were the leader, but late, a fourth option picked up steam and fans started to wonder if he would ever actually play college basketball.
After many questions and speculation over the course of the last month, Hampton put an end to it all and announced that he was headed overseas to play basketball.
“My dream has never been to play college basketball,” he said on Get Up. “My dream has always been to get to the next level and to play in the NBA.”
“I think this is the best route for me to live like a pro and play with grown men everyday, and not have to juggle books and basketball and just focus on my main goal.”
He will be taking his talents to Australia to play professionally in Australia’s NBL. He will play for the New Zealand Breakers next year.
