JT Thor Talks Recruiting

6-foot-9 JT Thor of Huntington Prep (WV) has had a productive basketball career thus far.

The consensus five-star talent has been among the best players in his class and many schools have prioritized him as a result.

Schools like Kansas, Arizona, Florida, UConn, Maryland and more have offered, and a lot of the programs following his progress spent some time in Charlottesville, Virginia at the NBPA Top 100 camp to see him in action.

Kansas and Maryland both watched him extensively during the camp, and he spoke about the two programs when asked about the programs really making a push.

“Kansas [is] really making a push. I’ll say Maryland [is] making a push too,” Thor said. “Kentucky [has] been contacting my brother too. They haven’t offered yet but that’s still an option if it’s there.”

So far, in limited minutes, Thor has averaged 6.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. His best day came during the opening night of the tournament based on the fact that he was able to showcase his ability to shoot off the dribble, play on the wing and score efficiently.

“I think I can take guys on the perimeter,” he said. “I think I’m a great passer. I’m a very underrated passer, and I can make the jump shot too off the dribble. So that’s where I’m most comfortable at.”

Most scouting services have Thor listed as a four and rightfully so, he can play both positions or as a small ball four depending on need. However, if it were up to Thor, he’d like to play on the perimeter.

“I like guarding guys on the wing because I can guard the wing and I can lock them up too,” he said. “The post, I just get impatient a lot. On the perimeter, I can go fast and guard them. In the post, I just have to stay still and I don’t really like that.”

“But if I got to do it, I got to do it though.”

Kansas is a program that seems to be in the driver seat right now for Thor, according to many, and they’ve been speaking to his brother about him potentially coming in and playing on the perimeter.

“They’re keeping in touch, every couple of days. They really want me badly,” Thor said. “They’ve been contacting my brother because I can’t talk to them right now but they’re really interested in me and want me to play the wing over there.”
