The summer is over for many student-athletes but everyone seems to still be buzzing over 2020 SG Kerwin Walton of D1 Minnesota and Hopkins (MN).
The 6-4 guard hit 10 three-point shots in one game during the NCAA live period in Birmingham, Alabama. He finished the game with 30 points and nailed 10-of-13 from distance.
Kansas, who has made the Elite Eight in three of the last four years, reached out to the rising senior to offer him a scholarship.
“I was really excited about receiving an offer from them considering how good their program is,” Walton said. “They liked that I could defend and shoot the ball, as well as my playmaking abilities.”
Arizona was another school that reached out to offer him a scholarship and he was excited about it for many reasons.
“I was really happy to get an offer from Arizona because of their history of turning their players into pros like Kansas,” he said. “And seeing my teammate Zeke Nnaji go there made it cool to get a scholarship from them as well.”
Iowa, Iowa State, Creighton, Miami, Texas, Vanderbilt, Cincinnati, West Virginia and Minnesota are currently recruiting Walton, along with interest from Memphis, Wichita State and Michigan State.
Some schools are coming harder than others and Walton listed them in no particular order.
“Right now a few schools are coming at me hard,” he said. “I would say Creighton, Texas, Iowa State, Miami, Cincinnati, Minnesota, and Arizona are recruiting me the hardest.”
While he doesn’t have any set dates for visits, he does have a list of schools he’s planning to visit.
“I’m planning on visiting Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota, Creighton and maybe more,” he explained.
