BJ Freeman emerging as high major prospect

D-1Miy7WsAY38dgCoaches have kept their eye on 2021 wing BJ Freeman of Clayton (NC)/Team Loaded (NC).

Penn State, Winthrop, Drake, James Madison, North Carolina, Oklahoma State, UNC-Wilmington, Elon and Appalachian State are all actively recruiting the 6-6 forward, and Purdue also recently reached out to offer.

They watched him throughout the summer and during a team camp in Charlotte, and surprised him with a scholarship offer shortly after.

“It was kind of shocking because they hadn’t contacted me or anything. I hadn’t got a text message from them,” he said. “They called me out of no where and told me that they would like to offer me, and liked how I play, and said that they would keep in contact with me. So it was kind of shocking.”

Penn State was the first high major program to offer Freeman over a year ago, and they are still in contact with him.

“They been on me kind of heavy,” he said of Penn State. “I just talked to them a couple of days ago. They were just seeing how stuff was going and seeing if I was still working, staying positive and staying consistent.”

He’s a year removed from making any decision on his recruitment. The emerging junior stated that he’s very open and is still waiting on a few offers. While he’s waiting, he’s planning on taking a few unofficial visits.

“Appalachian and Elon wanted to get me on campus before the end of this month,” he said. “I was also thinking about UCF but they’re in Spain right now. So, when they get back they’ll text me the information about me going on campus.

Freeman is a player that a lot of coaches should pay attention to. He is one of the more versatile players in his class, and coaches have let him know that.

“I have a high motor and I can play the one through four,” he said. “I keep my teammates involved, good teammate, good leader, and just love to win.”
