Two time state champion Tyler Rice of Ridge View (SC) has seen more programs get involved post-AAU.
Rice holds offers from Penn State, Elon, USC Upstate and now Western Carolina after the head coach reached out to extend the scholarship.
“I was very surprised,” he said. “It was unbelievable to hear those words come from coach [Mark] Prosser and I just had to thank them for believing in me.”
Programs such as South Carolina, Clemson, Memphis, South Florida, Charleston, Georgia State, Murray State, Appalachian State, Columbia, Coastal Carolina, UNC-Greensboro, UPenn, Cincinnati, Morehead State, Harvard, Charlotte, Michigan, Liberty, Davidson, William & Mary, Charleston Southern and North Carolina A&T have reached out and are interested, he told me.
“I think coaches like the fact that I can score really good and get others involved at the same time,” he said. “I think they love the fact that I love to defend and also my leadership abilities on the court. I’ve also had some coaches tell me that I play with great pace.”
Coaches from all parts of the country have reached out to show interest in the 2021 guard from South Carolina. He’s has in-state offers as well as offers on the east coast. He’s far from making a decision but when he does, the location of the program will not matter.
“Location isn’t a factor at all,” he explained. “I’m looking to choose where ever I have the best relationship with the coaches and where ever I’m prioritized.”
So far Rice has taken a few unofficial visits and doesn’t plan to stop anytime soon. He will spend this weekend taking unofficials to UNC-Charlotte (10/25), North Carolina A&T (10/26) and possibly Presbyterian (10/27). He also plans to take an unofficial visit to Cincinnati soon but he hasn’t set the date for that one just yet.
