2021 The Phelps School (PA) center Sam Ayomide has been the talk of major college basketball coaches as of late.
The 7-footer with an improving game recently picked up an offer from VCU and has Penn State, Temple, Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas and Virginia Tech watching.
“I was so surprised,” he said of his latest offer from VCU. “It’s a really good school and a great program with a great coach.”
Ayomide can do a lot of damage down low with his back to the basket. He can use either shoulder to utilize the jump hook and he has soft hands that allows the point guard to set it in his pocket and watch him throw it down with ease.
It’s something most coaches enjoy about him when watching but they also enjoy a few other things, he says.
“My shooting,” he said of what coaches like the most about him. “And me being able to pass the ball good and I can move well [in the post].”
Temple is another program trying to make a push at the emerging center and they had him on campus for an unofficial visit in February when the Owls took on Villanova.
He’s a big fan of the school and really enjoyed his time there.
“It was really good love,” he said. “The crowds energy, it was great and I love the coaching staff, it was great.”
