The contact period for incoming juniors doesn’t happen for another three months but that hasn’t stopped college programs from reaching out to New Hampton Prep (NH) wing Alex Karaban.

Karaban just finished up his sophomore year of high school and added his first scholarship offer from Providence, then received another from Indiana Tuesday night.

Providence has been following him throughout the season and the coaching staff finally made it official by offering him a scholarship.

“I have personally enjoyed all the time I have spent with them,” Karaban said. “They always have showed me love through the year and they make their players better and better by putting them in the best positions possible.”

Louisville, Wake Forest, Boston College and Georgetown are also interested.

“I would say [coaches like] my basketball IQ,” Karaban said. “My ability to shoot and my ability to create mismatches.”

In his lone season at New Hampton Prep, Karaban was selected to the first team NEPSAC AAA after averaging 20 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. He was also named the MVP in the AAA championship game, where they took down Brewster Academy (NH).
