Since the firing of head coach Montez Robinson, Alcorn State’s already-small recruiting class has taken a big hit.

Junior college forward Zavon Godwin decommitted from Alcorn State and is looking for a new home.

“They decided not to resign my head coach for next year,” Godwin said. “So, I thought it was best for my family and I to look for a new home.”

Since his decommitment, Cleveland State, Maryland Eastern Shore, New Hampshire and Southern Indiana have all reached out.

“[I’m looking for] a place that’s perfect for my psychology major,” Godwin explained. “A good environment around the campus. A great relationship with the coaching staff…looking for a family. A place I will feel comfortable.”

With no end in sight to the coronavirus, student-athletes are committing to programs before being able to visit the campus. That may be the case with Godwin as he navigates his recruitment a second time around looking for that family feel.

“I guess with everything going on, it’s kind of tricky. I would love to take a visit to get the full experience,” he said. “But, if things don’t clear up, I will have to make this hard decision with what I know about the schools and research on the program.”
