Newly-hired Loyola Marymount head coach Stan Johnson has only been on the job for a few weeks but has already identified a potential cornerstone in Rancho Christian (CA)/Compton Magic (CA) guard Jaden Byers.
“They recently got a new coach and new staff. Coach Johnson is good friends with my AAU and high school coach,” Byers explained. “But, he reached out and we had a good conversation and he told me he looks forward to building a good relationship.
Montana, UC Riverside, Pepperdine, UC Davis, Columbia, San Diego, Loyola Marymount, Colorado State and UNLV are all also recruiting Byers.
“Coaches like my athleticism and that I’m a winner,” he said. “My ability to get everyone involved, my leadership and how I get after it.”
Byers recruitment is wide open at this point. He’s enjoying the process, doing his homework on the programs and also working to get better to increase his opportunities.
His ideal program has to have many qualities but there are some things that are at the top of his list.
“I’m looking for a program with a family atmosphere and a great relationship with the coaching staff,” he said. “A program that believes in me and a program that loves winning.”
