2022 wing Derrick “DJ” Nix of Cannon School (NC) has been the focus of Wichita State’s Gregg Marshall and his staff for a while now, and after some relationship building with his high school coach, the Shockers offered him a scholarship.
“With the rules being what they are my high school coach get a lot of the communication,” he said. “I know coach Marshall is very knowledgable and he was great at Winthrop as well.”
In all, Nix has offers from Auburn, Washington State, Wichita State, Boston College, East Tennessee State, Houston Baptist and South Alabama.
He’s been on unofficial visits to North Carolina, Clemson, Charlotte and Wake Forest, and has communication coming from Texas Tech, Iowa and Louisville.
So far, his parents and high school have handled his recruitment. He’s just working on his game and doing his part to continue attracting high major coaches.
“I’m able to guard and play multiple positions on both sides of the court,” he said. “My size, my strength, shooting ability and the way I affect winning. I have won at every level and I bring a winning team spirit to every team I’m on.”
