Charleston Southern transfer Dontrell Shuler committed to Middle Tennessee State.

Shuler, who spent the last two years with CSU, chose MTSU after hearing from Arkansas, Ole Miss, Maryland, Nebraska, San Diego State and Colorado State.

“New beginning,” he said of his decision to head to Murfreesboro, Tennessee. “I faced a lot of tough times at CSU with my father and injury. It caused a lot of frustration and confusion…so as one unit, I decided to leave and go to Middle Tennessee.”

The Columbia, SC native was one of the best remaining guards in the transfer portal. In 15 games last season, Shuler averaged 17.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.9 assist.

His 17.9 points per game is the highest PPG average by any sophomore in program history.

Shuler will be reunited with his close friend Jordan Davis, who transferred from Dayton to Middle Tennessee last season, and be playing for head coach Nick McDevitt in Conference USA.

He’s only played against two Conference USA opponents in his short career at CSU averaging 13 points, three rebounds and two assist, while shooting 50-percent from the field.
