Coaches have been all over 2021 Episcopal (VA) shooting guard Garrett Johnson.
Mount St. Mary’s, Furman, Penn, Vermont, Brown, George Mason, William & Mary, George Washington, Quinnipiac, UMass-Lowell, Fairfield and James Madison have offered the Team Takeover guard with the latest offer coming from UNC-Wilmington.
He added six scholarship offers in the month April and isn’t done hearing from programs.
“It’s definitely exciting,” Johnson said. “I am very grateful for any school that offers to pay for my education and offers me a spot in their program.”
Princeton, Stanford, Xavier, Yale, Richmond, Harvard and plenty more are showing interest.
Academics mean a lot to Johnson and it’s no surprise that many high-academic programs are all over his recruitment. Penn in the Ivy League is one of the newer programs in his recruitment and their relationship is progressing well over time.
“They just recently started recruiting me a few weeks back so we’re still building a relationship,” Johnson explained. “I’ve enjoyed getting to know coach [Steve] Donahue and the rest of the staff so far.”
“I love how UPenn offers the best of both worlds with experience with academics and their basketball programs.”
Johnson was recently named All-IAC and to the 2020 VISAA Division I all-state second team after eclipsing 1,000 points in his high school career. A year prior at Oakton (NC), Garrett Johnson was named Concorde Boys District Player of the Year as well as being to the All-Region first team.
At 6-foot-7, he’s shown that he can do a little bit of everything on both ends of the floor and coaches have enjoyed that the most about his game.
“They like my versatility,” he said. “The fact that I can, offensively, do a little bit of everything and guard one through four on the defensive end.”
