I’m sure there will be a time in the future that 2022 combo guard Lamar Washington of Jefferson (OR) will hear the suggestion: give up football or basketball and focus on one.
It’s a question that many two sport athletes hear but not all are in his unique situation.
Washington, after yesterday, now has Division I scholarship offers in both basketball and football after Bryant‘s staff reached out to Washington’s coaches and extended an offer.
He announced the offer shortly after on Twitter.
“It feels good,” he said of adding his first Division I basketball offer. “It shows that my work is paying off.”
Pepperdine, Portland State, Eastern Washington and Washington are the other Division I basketball programs showing interest as of now.
On the court, Washington is a guard that, “can score the ball but also can pass, play defense and rebound,” Washington said.
In football, Washington holds offers from Oregon State, Nebraska, California-Berkeley, Kansas, Nevada and Utah State.
At this point, the door is open for each sport and right now, he’s not ready to hear the question or enter one. When that decision is made, he will follow his heart.
“My gut feeling,” he explained. “Which one is going to put me in the best situation for my future.”
