McDonogh (MD) lead guard Jared Billups picked up an Ivy League offer from Brown this week, increasing his offer total to six with Bucknell, Bryant, UMass Lowell, Mount St. Mary’s and Loyola (MD) as his other scholarship offers.
“It’s building slowly,” he said of his relationship with Brown. “We haven’t talked that much until recently but they’ve really been watching my film through quarantine and they really liked what they saw.”
“Overall, I have a pretty good relationship with them.”
Coastal Carolina, VCU, William & Mary, Lehigh, Lafayette, Columbia, Davidson, Towson, Princeton, UMBC, Yale, Penn, George Mason, Air Force, Maryland, Howard, Dayton and Virginia Tech are also paying attention to his progress.
A lot of high academic programs are very interested in Billups, and the reason is simple. He said, “I actually take pride in academics,” and coaches understand that and recruit him heavily because of it. His game is also a big factor in what coaches see, and his versatility is something that really attracts the coaches.
“I’m extremely versatile,” he said. “I can potentially defend the one through four, and I have a big frame already. They just see my potential.”
While there are no zoom calls scheduled, he’s already completed some with Towson, Brown, Mount St. Mary’s and Yale, with a potential one coming soon from Bucknell.
