Santa Clara head coach Herb Sendek added another student-athlete to his 2021 recruiting class.
Point guard Carlos Stewart of Dunham (LA) announced that he was committing to Santa Clara via social media joining guard Brenton Knapper, forward Max Besselink, and forward Camaron Tongue.
He chose Santa Clara over offers from Coastal Carolina, New Orleans, UAB, TCU, Tulane and Louisiana-Lafayette.
“The coaches at Santa Clara presented me with a plan for my future that lined up with what I am looking to accomplish in basketball,” Stewart explained. “And with the education they can offer me and how it will help me when my basketball career is over.”
ScoopmanTV.com had the pleasure of watching Stewart during the Peach Jam last season while he was playing with Livon-Fleur De Lis (LA). Our assessment was that he was a very tough, high energy guard that can make plays on both ends of the floor. He can put up points with the best of them but his true talent lies on the defensive end.
Santa Clara adds a great two-way guard that could turn out to be a steal for the program in the future.
“The offense is very unselfish and this team loves to run and that’s what I like to do,” he said. “So with the way I shoot and get my teammates involved, I think I will fit in just fine.”
