When midnight struck on the east coast on the 15th, Appalachian State & Loyola-Chicago called 2022 Sagemont School (FL) guard Rickey Ballard.

The two programs have made him a high priority in the class of 2022, along with Florida Atlantic, Marshall, Liberty, Alcorn State, Mercer, Grambling State and Lehigh.

“They were telling me that they liked that I can shoot the hell out the ball and also be a hard nosed defender on the defensive end too,” Ballard explained. “It also blew their mind when they found out I am 6-foot-6 at 15 years old and that I got a lot of time to grow even more on and off the court.”

While the moment seems to be trending upwards for Ballard and his recruitment, sustaining it seems to be an even bigger goal for the 2022 guard that has been using the downtime to improve his skills.

“I’m working on the vertimax machine three times a week so I can get bouncier and I’m also in the weight room getting stronger,” Ballard said. “Basketball wise, I’m working on getting comfortable with the ball because next season everything is going to run through me and my teammate Raph because we had eight seniors leave last year.”
