2022 Malden Catholic (MA) point guard Tony Felder Jr received his first offer from home state program UMass yesterday, and it was a great moment for himself and his family.
“It felt amazing considering I’m a Boston native,” Felder Jr. explained. “It’s good to know a great school thinks I can play at their level.”
UMass is the first program to offer but Boston, Providence, Rutgers, UConn, Robert Morris, Hartford, Iowa and Holy Cross are also paying attention to lead guard from Massachusetts.
“Coaches like my leadership,” he said. “And the ability to control the floor, and my shooting ability so far.”
Right now, it’s all about improving his game and making sure that he continues to add opportunities in the future. The only one to do that, is by staying in the gym and working on his game, and that is something he’s been doing since his season ended.
“Right now, finishing with contact and working on my explosive ability,” he said. “Even deeper range shooting, and staying consistent.”
Felder Jr. hasn’t done any virtual visits or Zoom calls, but he does plan on taking some visits following the pandemic. He’s already made his mind up on visiting Boston University again, along with Hartford and Rutgers.
