2021 point guard Brock Wakefield of South Iron (MO) has the attention of plenty of Division I programs at the moment.
He recently added his first Division I offer from Elon, while also holding offers from Truman, Drury, McKendree, Missouri-St. Louis.
Davidson, Missouri State, UMKC, Temple, Central Arkansas, Northwestern State, SIU-Edwardsville, Drake, Santa Clara, Utah State, Navy, Air Force, Army, Citadel, VMI, Jacksonville State, Southeast Missouri State, UMass-Lowell and Lehigh are also showing interest and have been in contact with Wakefield.
“Most of the coaches that have reached out said that they like my ability to shoot the basketball,” he said. “And present opportunities for my teammates to score.”
Wakefield is seeing a lot more schools get involved as of late from both levels, and the goal in short is to sustain that interest and turn it into more future opportunities at the college level.
He’s doing so by working on his game, and improving his body.
“Right now I am working on putting on weight,” he said. “And improving my strength, and athleticism.”
Wakefield has completed a couple zoom calls with UMKC in the past few weeks and expects to have another sometime in the near future. An offer from UMKC could also be in play as well.
Right now, his recruitment remains open. He doesn’t have any plans to narrow down his list of schools or decide soon, but he does have an idea of what kind of program he’s looking for in the future.
“I’m looking for a program that is going to be successful and a program where I can grow as a basketball player,” he explained. “I am also looking for a place where I’m going to get a great education.”
