SMU offers in-state sophomore a scholarship

SMU head coach Tim Jankovich started offering basketball scholarships to student-athletes in the class of 2023 over the weekend.

2023 Ma’Shy Hill of Hendrickson (TX) was among them to receive an offer from the head coach of SMU, bringing his offer total to three with Rice and Houston also offering him in the last few weeks.

“Coach Jankovich is a really good guy,” Hill said. “He definitely wants what is best for me. I haven’t talked to any other staff members yet but I really look forward to that.”

Texas, Harvard and Stanford, are just some of the programs interested and following his progress.

“So far, [coaches like] my activity on defense and my footwork on offense,” he explained.

At 6-foot-9, Hill is one of the more versatile players in his class. He watches a lot of Giannis Antetokounmpo and models his game after the near 7-footer that moves likes a guard, and has started to work on aspects of his game that should help him develop into something similar in the long run.

“Attacking off the dribble,” he said of what he’s working on. “And consistency of my shooting form.”
