Lake Norman Christian School (NC) forward Jonathan Kurtas is a player to watch for college coaches at the Division I level. He added offers two offers late July from Denver and Tennessee State, and has plenty more programs showing interest.
“It was really exciting! It kind of came out of the blue,” he said of adding two offers. “I was extremely excited about the first one and then that excitement only built on the second one. It gave me a shot of confidence and I felt like all the work I’ve been putting in is beginning to pay off.”
Lafayette, Army, Drexel, College of Charleston, Charleston Southern, Williams & Mary, UNC Pembroke, Gardner Webb, SIU-Edwardsville, St. Mary’s and Mount St. Mary’s are all showing interest as well.
His size at 6-foot-11 is undeniable, but that’s not the only thing coaches have said they liked about his game.
“Most coaches say it’s the way I move on the court,” he explained. “Another thing is that coaches like seeing me not be afraid to step out and guard a smaller guard.”
With the restriction in place, and coaches not able to take prospective student-athletes on tour, Kurtas has taken it upon himself to view some of the campuses of programs that are recruiting him.
He’s recently gone to see UNC Pembroke, Citadel, Charleston Southern and College of Charleston. He’s also had a recent zoom call with the coaches at Charleston Southern.
