Michael Barber recruitment picking up heading into JUCO season

When I spoke to former Howard player Michael Barber, who is now hooping at Southwest Mississippi CC (MS), he had just picked up an offer from Chicago State.

Southern, College of Charleston, Alabama State, New Orleans and Arkansas Pine Bluff were also taking a look at the 6-foot-9 forward with a versatile game.

“Coaches they love my versatility,” he said. “Me being able to play and guard multiple positions, and being able to score and be a playmaker in a variety of ways.””

Barber is looking to expand on his game this season at the JUCO ranks with disclipline, extra gym time and overall just a good mindset of wanting to get better.

“I’ve been staying in the weight room and on the shooting machine,” he said. “Also, just constantly getting extra workouts in; stretching a lot too.”

He’s expecting a big season this year, because JUCO has already helped him on and off the floor.

“JUCO keeps you focused,” Barber explained. “More time in the gym, and to get your grades up.”
