2022 Westfield (IN) point guard Braden Smith is a player to watch in Indiana.
He recently picked up two offers with the latest coming from Toledo, who has developed quite the relationship with lead guard thus far.
“It’s like a friendship really. Not exactly but similar to it,” Smith explained. “Just because they text like every other day checking in, asking questions like what are my favorite movies or whatever. Questions like that.”
Toledo isn’t the only program pushing hard for Smith’s services though. Indiana, Purdue, Virginia, Santa Clara, Belmont, IUPUI, Montana, Liberty, Ball State, Davidson, Evansville, Findlay, Furman, Idaho State, Indiana State, Loyola-Chicago, Miami (OH) and Western Michigan, among others are also recruiting Smith who says coaches like his game because he plays it the correct way.
“My court vision and my shooting,” he replied when asked what coaches like the most about his game. “They just said they can tell that I work hard on my body.”
The next step in his game is adding weight, which he has been working on throughout his “offseason.” Defense is another place that he wants to improve on and that should help him get more opportunities down the road.
