It’s been a busy week for 2023 Brother Rice (MI) guard John Blackwell. His leadership qualities have been on full display this summer, and his game has certainly improved.
“I feel I’ve been playing alright,” Blackwell explained. “I have been showing scoring and leadership.”
Division I coaches have taken notice. Once colleges were able to communicate with incoming juniors, Blackwell was atop of a lot of list and since the 15th of June, he has received scholarship offers from VCU, Oakland, Rhode Island, Toledo and Cleveland State.
“It feels good,” he said of the five scholarship offers. “I got to keep working though.”
Purdue, Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa State, Northwestern, DePaul, Butler, Marquette and more are also recruiting him, and they’ve all said they like his game for a multitude of reasons.
“Coaches like my pace,” he explained. “My ability to score and my playmaking ability.”
Right now, it’s all about getting better for Blackwell. He plans on getting stronger and being more consistent with his jump shot, which should help improve his recruitment moving forward.
