High major programs making Connecticut guard Desmond Claude a high priority

St. Thomas More (CT) guard Desmond Claude has been a focus for many high major programs.

In June, Claude received scholarship offers from Butler, California, Minnesota, Seton Hall, Providence, Creighton, Kansas State, Marquette, Xavier and Boston College. He also holds offers from Boston, Siena, UMass, Rhode Island and Bryant.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” he said of adding so many offers. “I went from watching the coaches on TV to being on the phone and playing in front of them. It’s really special.”

Programs such as Holy Cross, Charlotte, Rutgers, Boise State, Temple, UNC-Greensboro, James Madison, West Virginia, Penn State, Georgia, Iona, Virginia, Tulsa, William & Mary, Hofstra, Cal, Oklahoma, Fordham, Elon and Wofford are showing interest.

“Coaches like how I run the point and control the pace,” Claude explained. “Me off ball screen is one thing they really like and I can create for others. I can also run the 2 spot as well.”

Claude’s recruitment is still wide open and more programs are starting to get involved. I anticipate a lot more high major offers during the live period when more coaches are able to see his progress. Some of the things he’s been working on has benefitted his overall game, and that should lead to more eyes.

“Shooting more consistently and situational reads on the offensive part of the game,” he said of what he’s improving on. “Ball screens, cuts and handling the ball.”
