Citadel head coach Duggar Baucom had the opportunity to speak to 2022 Ardrey Kell (NC) point guard Evan Smith during an unofficial visit and offered him a scholarship before he left campus.
Citadel became the fifth program to offer the 6-foot-3 prospect joining Navy, Army, Catawba and Belmont Abbey.
“The relationship is great,” he said of Citadel. “They had me down there for an unofficial visit and it was great. All of the coaches made me feel welcomed and I got to watch a practice and meet some of the guys down there as well.”
UNC-Wilmington, Charlotte, Winthrop and College of Charleston are also showing interest, he said, and they all given him similar feedback on his game.
“Coaches have told me they love the way I compete, the way I keep my composure and lead my team as a point guard,” Smith explained. “They have also have told me they love how I handle the ball and make good decision whether that’s getting to my spot and scoring, or setting my teammates up for easy buckets.”
For now, Smith is focused on his game and upcoming AAU schedule. With no upcoming visits confirmed yet, he’s just excited to get to play in front of coaches and have the chance to play for more scholarship opportunities.
