2023 Houston Christian (TX) point guard Orlando Horton Jr. has simple goals this summer.
He wants to win the Peach Jam, while also being the best player he can be with Houston Hoops (TX) on the Nike EYBL circuit.
“Of course it’s to win the Peach Jam,” he said of his goal this summer. “But me personally, I’m trying to lead the event in assists and steals, while making the game easier for teammates.”
“I want to slow every teams best guards down, while showing I’m able to be the best guard in my class.”
So far, Texas Southern, Old Dominion, Jackson State, Prairie View A&M and Alabama State have offered him a scholarship. Programs such as Oral Roberts, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Liberty, Grambling State, Rice, Houston Baptist, UTEP, Louisiana Tech and Lamar are also showing interest.
“Coaches like how I can get paint touches,” he explained. “How I get my team involved, how I can shoot, the way I can score when my team needs a basket and how I defend.”
Coaches will be out in full force for the July evaluation period and Horton Jr could be a viable option for a lot of programs. I expect a lot more schools to get involved as he plans to show his improving guard play and overall game.
