Combine Academy (NC) dispatched Crestwood Prep (ON) to the tune of 92-68 on Day three of the City of Palms Classic. 12 different players scored at least one point with three finishing in double-figures lead by A.J. Smith‘s 16 points and five rebounds.
On the other side, Crestwood Prep’s Romad Dean finished with 29 points and 12 rebounds on 11-of-17 (65%) shooting from the field. In 2019, only three players—Malik Reneau, Paolo Banchero and Tai’Reon Joseph—finished with a combination of 25 points and 10 rebounds.
His teammate Elijah Fisher was also impressive dropping 25 points to go with seven rebounds, six assist and four steals. His 25-5-5 game was so impressive because over the last two tournaments the only players to do this are a few current ACC players—R.J. Davis when he took on O’Dea in 2019 & Paolo Banchero when he took on Gonzaga College (DC) the same year.
When you add both performances together, there were no instances of two teammates each scoring 25 points in a single game over the last two COP tournaments outside of Fisher and Dean.
Meanwhile, Oak Hill (VA) continued to dominate cruising to a 30-point victory over Whitney Young (IL), 97-67. It’s the 2nd most points scored by a team at the COP over the last two tournaments behind the 99 points Montverde Academy (FL) scored against McEachern (GA) in 2019.
Six different players finished in double figures for Oak Hill led by Chris Livingston‘s 23 points on 9-of-10 (90%) shooting. His teammate Judah Mintz also came in with 22 points on 8-of-14 (57%) shooting becoming just the third duo this COP tournament to each score 20 points in a game joining the aforementioned players from Crestwood Prep (ON) and Life Christian Academy’s (FL) Angel Montas and Breylin Garcia.
Stat of the day: Combine Academy’s reserves scored 50 points, the most bench points by any team over the last two COP tournaments. For reference, the three other games on day combined to score 57 bench points.
