History will be made either way Wednesday when Oak Hill takes the court against Montverde in the City of Palms Classic championship.
Oak Hill Academy (VA) got there after knocking off IMG Academy (FL), a program they lost to earlier this season by 12 points. Three different players finished in double-figures for Oak Hill led by Kentucky-bound senior Chris Livingston, who finished with 22 points to go along with 7 rebounds on 8-of-13 (62%) shooting.
Baylor commit Keyonte George led all scorers in the game with 24 points, 9 rebounds and 0 turnovers. George is the only player this tournament with a combination of 20 points and 0 turnovers.
In the other semifinal matchup, Milton (GA) gave Montverde Academy (FL) everything it could handle. The final score was 59-44 but it was a lot closer. Milton led for the majority of the game and took a 1-point lead into the half, but Montverde has a deep bench and the talent to withstand haymakers, and as the game progressed they starting throwing knockout punches of their own.
Milton again finished with 0 bench points, doing so in back-to-back games, which was likely the determining factor here. Milton has a combined 2 bench points in the three games played at the COP so far.
Dariq Whitehead finished with a game-high 23 points on 50-percent shooting to help Montverde to its second straight championship game in as many appearances.
Arkansas commit Nick Smith Jr finished with a 30-bomb in the fifth place semifinal to help North Little Rock overcome Whitney Young’s late surge. It was only the second 30 point outing of the tournament becoming 1 of 2 players with a combination of 30 points and five assist over the last two tournaments joining Zion Harmon.
Whitney Young (IL) guard A.J. Casey also flirted with a triple double this game finishing with 25 points, 8 rebounds, six assist, two steals and two blocks. His 25-5-5 game is just the second of the tournament so far.
