Sunrise Christian Academy (KS) head coach Luke Barnwell has been named the 2022 Jersey Mike’s Naismith High School Boys Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.
Barnwell led Sunrise Christian to the NIBC tournament championship, and has a 24-1 record this season so far.
He led Sunrise Christian (KS) to multiple wins over national powerhouse IMG Academy, and his team has wins over Montverde Academy and Oak Hill. Sunrise Christian won by an average of 11.2 points per game in the NIBC, the second best margin of any team in the conference this season.
Barnwell wins the award for the second consecutive season becoming the first coach to win the Naismith COY award in two straight years. He joins Kevin Boyle (Montverde Academy/St. Patrick) and Steve Smith (Oak Hill Academy) as the only coaches to win the award multiple times.
Coach | Years |
---|---|
Luke Barnwell | 2021, 2022 |
Kevin Boyle | 2020, 2018, 2011 |
Steve Smith | 2015, 2012, 2009 |
Sunrise Christian (KS) looks to be a lock for the Geico Nationals, an event that crowns a high school national champion. Kevin Boyle of Montverde Academy (FL) in 2018 was the only head coach to win the Naismith COY award and the Geico Nationals in the same season.
