USA Basketball u18 team rewrote the history books en route to their seventh consecutive gold medal at the AmeriCup.
As a team, the USA continued their dominate ways winning each game by a score of at least 22 points, extending their streak of double-digit victories to 33 games. The last time an opponent came within single digits was in June 2010.
Defensively, the US was also dominate holding each opponent to 70 points or fewer. The USA has not allowed a team to score more than 70 points in their last 13 games at the tournament.
Individually, Darius Acuff Jr. was named MVP of the tournament, averaging 17.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game. He recorded three games with over 20 points, joining Cam Whitmore (2022) as the only players since 2006 to achieve this for the USA u18 team in a single tournament. His 107 points were second only to Cam Whitmore’s 112 in that span.
Morez Johnson Jr. finished with 54 rebounds, placing him third on the all-time list for the USA U18 team in a single tournament. Johnson Jr. also recorded the second 15-point, 15-rebound game for the USA u18 team since 2006 against Belize during the Group Phase, and later tied the USA record for rebounds in a game with 17 against Puerto Rico in the semifinals.
Christopher Brown tallied 31 assists, surpassing Jalen Brunson for the third most assists by a USA u18 player in a single tournament. Only Tyus Jones (32 in 2014) and Stephon Marbury (62 in 1994) have recorded more.
Daniel Jacobsen set a new record with 19 blocks, surpassing Myles Turner’s 18 blocks set in 2014. His 3.2 blocks per game led the entire tournament and is the second-highest average by a USA u18 player all-time, trailing only Myles Turner’s 3.6 blocks per game.
USA Basketball now has 11 gold medals at the event. No other competing nation has more than one.
