2027 guard Trey Pinkard recaps San Diego visits & talks game

The buzz around Trey Pinkard, a 2027 point guard from The Woodlands Christian Academy (TX), is growing louder. Over the summer, Pinkard notched his first Division I scholarship offer from San Jose State, and he’s caught the attention of plenty more programs.

One of those programs is San Diego, who recently hosted the talented Texas guard for an unofficial visit, and it’s safe to say the experience left a mark.

“The campus is beautiful. San Diego is so beautiful,” Pinkard shared. “I like their style of play, and the competitiveness that they have.”

Although the recruiting process is still in its early stages, Pinkard’s list of suitors is already starting to stack up. Holy Cross, Montana State, and Seattle are also among the schools keeping a close watch on his development.

“A lot of programs will probably wait until June to get a better look at him,” Pinkard’s father said. “To see how he continues to develop.”

For Pinkard, it’s not just about basketball; academics and the right playing style will be key factors in his decision-making.

“I love robotics, so I’d love to go to a school with a strong engineering program,” Pinkard noted. “And as far as play goes, I thrive in pick-and-roll situations. I’d love to be part of a team that uses the pick-and-roll often, and I want to play for a defensive team that loves to guard.”

For now, Pinkard stands out as a player who checks a lot of boxes for Division I coaches. He embraces the grind on the defensive end but can also light it up offensively, too, with a sharp shooting touch.

“He’s considered one of the best shooters in his class off the dribble from the perimeter,” his father explained. “He’s got NBA range off the dribble and makes smart reads in pick-and-roll situations. Those are the key strengths that coaches love about his game.”
