2026 point guard James Sanderson is attracting serious attention on the recruiting trail. According to Verbal Commits, he currently holds four scholarship offers—from Arizona State, North Texas, Sam Houston State, and Duquesne. Meanwhile, programs like New Mexico, Clemson and Syracuse have also entered the conversation, keeping tabs on the 6-foot-2 playmaker.

Sanderson’s appeal goes beyond just scoring. “I think they like that I’m a true point guard,” Sanderson explained, when asked what coaches are drawn to in his game. “And that I can also score at the same time.”

His recruitment tour recently brought him to a Sam Houston State practice, where the intensity left a mark. “The practice was very competitive,” Sanderson said, noting the high energy on the court.

North Texas has also made its interest clear, with coaches visiting his high school to watch him play—a relationship that’s blossoming by the week.

“It’s been great. They talk to me weekly and always call to see how I am,” he shared. “I’m trying to get out to a practice.”
