Coaches getting a good look at 2027 guard Braxton Keathley

Coaches across the states are quickly becoming familiar with 2027 guard Braxton Keathley of Prestonsburg High School (KY). Standing 6-foot-4, this rising prospect has caught serious recruiting momentum, which he credits to his standout performances this summer on the Adidas circuit with the Midwest Basketball Club.

“Competing on the 3SSB circuit this summer really gave me a platform to showcase what I can do to a national audience,” he explained.

And his time under the spotlight has turned into a string of scholarship offers for the 2024 Kentucky Freshman of the Year.

Texas A&M Corpus Christi opened the doors with the first scholarship offer in August, soon followed by Southeast Missouri State and then Ohio. As his recruitment heats up, more coaches are keeping a close eye on the young guard.

Keathley’s phone has been buzzing with interest from Indiana, Memphis, Marshall, Bowling Green, Eastern Kentucky, Miami (OH), Morehead State, Navy, and a few others. Marshall recently rolled out the red carpet for Keathley, and the visit left quite an impression.

“Marshall was a great experience. The coaches really made me feel welcome,” he said. “I had the chance to watch their practice, and afterward, we took a tour, watched a football game, and spent time getting to know the coaches better.”

“They made me feel at home during the visit. I had a great time. I’ve taken a few unofficial visits, and this one was one of my favorites. I really like the coaches.”

More visits are on the horizon for the young prospect. On October 19, he’ll be at Miami (OH), with a likely stop at an ACC school the following week.

His recruitment continues to gather steam, and while the 3SSB circuit may have provided the spark, his relentless work with trainer Greg Keown has fueled the fire.

“Since junior high, coaches have mostly known me for my scoring,” he said. “They like how I can attack the rim and finish or get to my mid-range spots. I hear a lot about my ability to get to spots on the floor, make plays off the dribble, and read screens well. Lately, I’ve been getting feedback on how I bring energy on both offense and defense.”

“They like that I don’t back down from challenges and that I play hard on the defensive end.”

But while the buzz around his game and recruitment is growing, Keathley’s focus is razor-sharp: he’s all about the grind.

“The big thing right now is that I’ve got to keep working and getting better every single day,” he said. “There’s no Plan B. I have to keep evolving my game and refining my skill set. Every day is a learning process for me—listening to my high school coaches, being a leader, and working hard. It’s about getting better and not being outworked. I’m excited for this upcoming season and ready to see where the next three years will take me.”
