Western Michigan has been keeping close tabs on 2026 Goshen High School (OH) standout Tyler Owens, and for good reason.
The 6-foot-9 prospect shared that his recruitment has been heating up, but one program stands out from the crowd. “Western Michigan is recruiting me the most,” he said. The Broncos recently rolled out the red carpet, inviting him for an unofficial visit, and by all accounts, they made a lasting impression.
“My visit to Western Michigan went very well,” Owens said. “I enjoyed watching practice, going to the football game, and connecting with the coaching staff throughout the day.”
For Owens, building those personal connections with the coaching staff was a major goal going into the visit. His time on campus clearly helped solidify the bond between player and program.
“I had been in contact with Coach [Jeff] Rutter on the phone leading up to the visit, and this weekend was my first time meeting him and the staff in person,” he shared. “Coach Rutter, Coach [Shayne] Whittington, and head coach [Dwayne] Stephens were very outgoing and welcoming, as was the rest of the coaching staff.”
But Western Michigan is far from done. Assistant coach Rutter hinted that the Broncos plan to keep a close eye on Owens in the coming months.
“Coach Rutter implied he wants to come watch one of my high school games,” Owens noted.
