Pinned to the top of Derrick “Mannie” Harris Jr’s Twitter profile is a tweet that reads, “I’m going to shock the world,” that is accompanied with a hashtag that says believe that.

And each day, to his family, his coaches, college coaches and the fans that follow him, he’s doing just that.

“I’m just playing my game,” he said. “Being the DOG I am on the court.”

After a good weekend of hoops at The Tipoff Classic, Harris Jr. has added offers from Winthrop, Stetson and Charleston Southern. UMKC and Albany State have also offered him with Georgia, Furman, Akron, Virginia Tech, UAB, Western Carolina, Murray State, South Alabama, VMI, NJIT, Elon, Appalachian State, North Alabama, Georgia State, Northeastern and James Madison also following his progress.

“Coaches like the energy I bring to the game,” he explained. “Not only on offense but also defense because I am a lockdown defender.”

With more basketball left to be played, expect Harris Jr to continue to earn more scholarship offers. He has the skill set to compete on any level, as you can tell by the list of programs following him, and now he’s just working on adding muscle to get stronger to become even better at the rim.
