Apopka (FL) point guard John Latimer III picked up offer two and three in the past couple of days and more could be on the horizon.

NJIT assistant coach Joe Gutowski started off Monday with a scholarship offer to the 6-foot-1 lead guard and Holy Cross head coach Brett Nelson followed a few hours later. Presbyterian has also offered Latimer III.

Appalachian State, Jacksonville, Cornell and The Citadel are also showing interest.

Latimer III finished his junior season on the All-Central Florida area third team, scored 524 points last season, the 4th most in Apopka history, helped his program to a district title, a 13-game winning streak, and overall, has the chance to be one of the all-time greats of his high school.

The fact that he’s a winner is exactly why Division I programs should inquire, but he’s also someone that can impact the game on both ends of the floor.

“Getting downhill [and] my ability to score the ball from anywhere,” Latimer III explained. “Running the team, making plays and getting after you on the defensive end as well.”

As of now, he remains open. He’s still got a lot of his recruitment ahead of him and should see even more programs get involved down the road.

“I am keeping my options open for right now,” he said. “I’m not planning on making a decision until I feel like it’s the right place and another home for the next four years that my family and I feels comfortable sending me off too.”
